Chapter Six

Bethy didn’t have to worry about Doctor Taylor anymore. Or Doctor Clark. Or any of the others, either. As it turned out, Kurt was more dangerous than they were and he had one thing none of the others did—namely a father who was a billionaire developer with tentacles that reached into every facet of society, legal and illegal alike.

All Bethany had to do to get out from under the thumb of the Green Pin was to accept the young man’s protection, by declaring herself his. Which she promptly did two days later at an impromptu engagement party held at the hospital. Clark didn’t show, but Taylor did. He spent the whole time in the corner, in the shadows, sulking. She was still afraid of him and something told her he wasn’t going to give up this easily, but for now, she was enjoying her moment in the sun.

She wanted to keep working and Kurt said she could, at least for a while. Bethy didn’t ever want to quit, but she’d cross that bridge when they came to it. Certainly they would have children and then it was true she’d certainly need to stay home. In the mean time, she was wanted to enjoy the fruits of her hard work, treating patients in the bustling, never a dull moment ICU.

With her new position of power, Bethy even secured permission to bring Maureen back, also under his protection. The word was spread that the slender little dark haired girl was not to be touched, which made Taylor twice as angry as before.

Bethy didn’t care. She was finally having the fun she wanted to, being partnered up with Maureen, working for the irrepressible Claudette in the Intensive Care Unit.

The only recourse Taylor had was to taunt her with another new nurse, Brianna, a twenty-four-year-old brunette over whom he held absolute sway. Taylor made her wear skirts without underwear so he could molest her wherever and however he wanted. Sometimes he would use her in the copy room, timing things so that Bethy would walk in and find the girl bent over the photocopier or on her knees.

Another time when Brianna was frazzled and spilled a cup of coffee, he made her lick it off the floor. Brianna would go frequently to the bathroom to cry, the chains on her nipple rings jingling lightly under her braless top. Often she could barely sit, owing to the severe beatings she was receiving on a daily basis. The security guards were also sniffing around her a lot. Apparently the use of the girl’s body was one of the new perks of the security men.
